.:: HNI Overview ::.

The research group System and Circuit Technology was founded in February 1995 with the appointment of Professor Ulrich Rückert to the Heinz Nixdorf Institute, University of Paderborn. Currently, the group consists of 25 research scientists. The common research goal of the group is the systematic design and appropriate use of innovative microelectronic systems. In this field, the activities of the group comprise work on system and circuit level, both in digital and analog circuitry. Particular attention is paid to evaluating the resource efficiency of massively parallel and dynamically reconfigurable implementations. Resource efficiency means careful treatment of the basic physical variables: space, time and energy.

The reconfigurable computing team of the research group System and Circuit Technology is headed by Mario Porrmann, who is currently an Assistant Professor (Akademischer Oberrat) at the Heinz Nixdorf Institut. His main scientific interests are in on-chip multiprocessor systems, dynamically reconfigurable hardware and resource-efficient architectures for network components. Mario Porrmann is currently leading a project on dynamically reconfigurable hardware within the Collaborative Research Centre SFB614 (Self-optimizing Concepts and Structures in Mechanical Engineering). He is responsible for three projects on on-chip multiprocessors for network applications, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), a project on the design of components for high-speed communication, funded by the European Union and several national projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and by industrial partners. He is program committee member of several international conferences and serves regularly as a reviewer for a number of scientific journals and conferences as well as for research funding organizations. He has published more than 90 papers in scientific journals as well as for international conferences.
